Healthcare organizations can now offer virtual visits and video calling with push-button ease, within their existing EHRs

RESTON, VA — March 1, 2018 — Avizia, empowering system-wide telehealth, has announced support for the SMART on FHIR standard, which will allow healthcare organizations to launch virtual visits and telehealth workflows from their EHRs.

By aligning with the HL7® FHIR standard, Avizia enables healthcare organizations to add telehealth capabilities into their existing clinical workflow with the push of a button. By offering services such as remote video encounters through their EHRs, organizations will be able to maximize their existing technology investments and improve workflow across a variety of use cases.

“Avizia believes in the value of supporting healthcare standards,” said Cory Costley, Chief Product Officer of Avizia. “As the industry shifts to FHIR as a common language across EHRs and vendors, Avizia wants to ensure that telehealth solutions fit into hospitals’ existing systems. We believe in keeping as much clinical activity in the EHR as possible, with the understanding that virtual care needs to reach outside the walls of your enterprise and your EHR.”

As value-based care continues to grow, healthcare providers realize telehealth’s potential to drive better patient outcomes and improve efficiencies. Avizia’s 2017 Closing the Telehealth Gap report reveals that expanding patient access to care is the reason why 70 percent of providers offer telehealth services. However, implementing system-wide telehealth is often viewed as a costly and cumbersome endeavor.

Avizia’s SMART on FHIR app runs in the cloud, side-stepping the costly investment in video infrastructure and custom interfaces. Healthcare providers can improve patient access while ensuring continuity of care across disparate referring sites. This release expands Avizia’s existing interoperability delivered via HL7 v2 and Direct Messaging.

Avizia’s SMART on FHIR app features include:

  • the ability to conduct multipoint video calls launched from within the EHR;
  • far-end-camera control of telemedicine devices from within the browser;
  • patient intake, queuing and notification tools to ensure no one is left waiting;
  • built-in messaging and reporting tools to manage workflows across many use cases;
  • the ability to sync patients, appointments and documentation with simple interfaces.

Avizia enables more than 25 use cases and is the leader in system-wide telehealth. Avizia’s platform can scale from a single telehealth program administered by a small healthcare organization to a powerful system-wide virtual care delivery initiative.

Avizia was acquired by American Well in July of 2018. Information on this page refers to activities that occurred prior to the acquisition and are presented for historical context. Together we provide a comprehensive acute care offering—a full end-to-end telemedicine solution for health systems and their providers.
