National Telehealth Company Gains Valuable Advisors in Time of Rapid Growth

Today, national telehealth leader American Well announced the addition of two new directors to its board.

Former Massachusetts Governor Deval L. Patrick, a long-time advocate for increasing patient access to quality healthcare, joins the board of directors of American Well. Governor Patrick is a Managing Director at Bain Capital, one of the world’s foremost privately-held alternative investment firms, where he recently founded a new business focused on investments with significant social impact. He graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, before being appointed Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights by President William J. Clinton. In his first bid for public office in 2006, Governor Patrick became the first African-American to lead the state government. During his two terms, he oversaw the expansion of affordable health care to more than 98 percent of Massachusetts residents. Governor Patrick’s dedication to making healthcare more affordable and accessible aligns with American Well’s mission.

Brendan O’Grady, President and CEO, North America Generics, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, Ltd., also joins American Well’s board. Teva is the world leader in generic pharmaceuticals.  With over 25 years of experience, Mr. O’Grady brings with him a wealth of knowledge in the field of healthcare. He graduated from State University of New York College at Geneseo and attained his MBA from Baker University. Mr. O’Grady’s passion lies in improving patient experience and outcomes.

“Our new board directors will bring invaluable perspective and experience to guide American Well at this time of exponential growth,” said Ido Schoenberg, MD, Chairman and CEO of American Well. “We are seeing a huge increase in market sales and utilization of our technology across the industry. The nation’s leading health systems, health plans, and employers trust American Well to provide a seamless, secure telehealth experience for both patient and provider. ”

American Well has a tradition of seeking out individuals for leadership roles who bring with them extensive industry expertise, as well as enthusiasm for the role of technology and innovation in healthcare delivery.  Governor Patrick and Mr. O’Grady join existing American Well board members, including: Stanley (Bud) Morten, Senior Advisor and former Director at WPP Group, Anthem Regional President Douglas Wenners, American Well Chairman and CEO Dr. Ido Schoenberg, and American Well CEO Dr. Roy Schoenberg.
